Round 1

Round 1

This job unceremoniously landed at my desk when two other agencies tried their hand at it and were unsuccessful. The client wanted a striking image that could adorn the side of their new ships. A significant challenge, the design needed to be “eye catching”, needed to be quintessential “Australia” and visually denote a sense of “movement” in the sea. In this early design phase of Ship construction, there was a desire to acknowledge the traditional land owners of Australia and a boomerang element was a highlight on the mast of the ship. I took inspiration from this element and had an idea of combining it with another Australian icon - the southern cross.

For the subsequent rounds, the client experienced design changes with the ship and needed to remove the “Boomerang” element. This then resulted in a change of direction with the design. The client wanted to lean more into the “Southern Cross” element as this had resonated well within the corporation. They also enjoyed the movement of the previous designs and wanted to expand on this more. Here we have additional designs created to take into consideration that feedback with the 5th design the eventual winner.
